THE ITALIAN CULTURAL CENTER OF WESTERN MASS PRESENTS
FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE ITALIAN CINEMA
Friday, April 5, 2019
The Italian Cultural Center of Western Massachusetts, Inc. presents Friday Night at the Italian Cinema with the 2015 documentary, Palio by Director Cosima Spender. It will be shown on Friday, April 5th at 6:30 pm at the Italian Cultural Center located at 56 Margaret Street, Springfield. It is in Italian with English subtitles.
Twice a year the Italian city of Siena goes crazy for the oldest horse race in the world: the Palio. Not your average race: strategy, bribery and corruption play as much a part as the skill of the riders. Horses are allocated by lot four days prior to the race. This is when the madness truly begins. In the eye of the storm stand the jockeys. Loved and loathed by the districts they represent, they forge alliances and make deals promising large cash sums to try and get the best start. This documentary boasts characters as rich, and a narrative as entertaining, as might be found in the most crowd-pleasing of scripted sports sagas.
The doors will open at 6:00 and the movie will start at 6:30. The price of admission is $3.00 for members and $6.00 for non-members. As part of your movie experience, you will have a choice of beverage and a snack.
