On Thursday October 17, 2019 at 6:00 p.m., the East Longmeadow Historical Commission will host its fall program. Again, this year we are very happy to have Dennis Picard (a Historical Commission favorite) presenting an evening of local history. Dennis Picard will lead us in a presentation on the Shays’ Rebellion.

A brief history of the Shays’ Rebellion: An uprising led by a former militia officer, Daniel Shays which broke out in western Massachusetts in 1786. Shays’ followers protested the foreclosures of farms for debt and briefly shutting down the court system. The goal was to prevent the trial and imprisonment of debt-ridden citizens.

The Historical Commission continues in its efforts to provide resources and local programs of historical interests to the public.
